Elandsvlei Conservancy has a rich diversity of bird and animal life. Recently spotted species include Pel's Fishing-owl, aardvark and Clawless otter.
The Conservancy has several pans which attract a large variety of birds. The Pel's Fishing-owl is just one of the species frequenting the Conservancy. A bird hide allows the avid watcher to observe the birds without being intrusive. The owl hunts at night. The mainly nocturnal African Clawless Ottter lives in burrows dug into the bank of a water course. The otters have been sighted in the Conservancy. And the threesome of night lovers is completed with two sightings of the elusive aardvark, a burrowing nocturnal mammal. The aardvark is neither pig nor close relative of the anteater. Instead its closest relative is the elephant shrew!
